The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office reports crime statistics for the year 2009. Crime statistics are gathered and reported to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. These statistics measure the Part 1 and Part 2 crimes and how they either increase or decrease from year to year.
The Part 1 crimes are the main measuring tool for law enforcement and include the crimes of homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, B&E/burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft. This year the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office realized a 12% decrease in Part 1 crimes. These crimes represent how safe a citizen may or may not feel in their community. Sheriff BJ Barnes states, “Each year the crime report gives us a report card on how we are doing. Crime is often linked to the job market and economic issues that impact our community. It is also directly related to things such as drugs activity, the court system and how aggressive law enforcement is in protecting our citizens. We pride ourselves at the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office with being very aggressive in partnering with our citizens to make their homes and families safe. Since becoming Sheriff, we have reduced crime by approximately 45% while other jurisdictions have seen crime increases. The credit goes to the efforts of the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens we protect.” Any additional information needed, please contact Sheriff BJ Barnes at 641‐3694. |
