Officer Involved Shooting

On 2/2/2010, at approx: 12:29 pm, the resident at 4810 Moutline Dr., Greensboro, NC called 911 and reported her grandson was armed with a knife threatening to cut people. It was reported the residents had locked themselves in the house and the suspect was trying to get into the home.

Officer Barry Glosson, 10‐year veteran, responded to this domestic disturbance call at 4810 Moutline Dr., Greensboro, NC, which is located off Alcorn Rd. The response time for the officer was approximately 5 minutes (arrival time was at approximately 12:34 pm). Additional cars were also in route to the call. Upon arrival, Officer Glosson was met by the suspect who was armed with the knife and the suspect advanced on the officer in a threatening manner. The officer fired at the suspect, striking him in the chest. The suspect, Christian Rook, W/M/17 years old, stopped advancing and fell to the ground. Officer Glosson attempted to aid the suspect and called in an officer involved shooting. The shooting occurred in the street just in front of the officer’s vehicle. Both officer and suspect were taken to the hospital, the suspect for the bullet wound and the officer for chest pains.

Sheriff BJ Barnes states, “This is one of those things every officer dreads. They go through their career hoping they will never have to take a life, but knowing each day they may be called upon to do just that. My heart goes out to the family of Christian Rook and to the officer who will be affected by this for the rest of his life.”

The Sheriff’s Office has responded to this residence before and dealt with this suspect in the past.
