The next episode of Guilford Sheriff 911 airs Saturday June 6, at 6:30 PM, Cable Access Channel 8. Sheriff Barnes welcomes Dr. Jean Allen, Founder/Executive Director of Tristan’s Quest, and Amy Lynn Rhoderick, SKIP Coordinator of the organization. Dr. Allen relates that, although Tristan’s Quest was begun after the tragic death of her son, the organization has been able to help many families struggling to raise a child with emotional/behavioral challenges.
- Often bad child behavior is merely lack of social skill
- Mental health issues facing law enforcement
- Monthly parent support group available at Tristan’s Quest open to anyone
- SKIP (Support for Kids with Incarcerated Parents) helps 150 kids this year.
- SKIP meetings presently at nineteen Guilford County elementary schools
- Goal: Prevent intergenerational incarceration (statistically seven times more likely)

Next on this show is coverage of the recent “Cops On Top.” Guilford County Sheriff’s Deputies volunteered their time off, and spent three days on top of Chick Fil-A Friendly Center raising money for Special Olympic NC. Follow the fun as Deputies’ good-humored heckling convinces customers to both donate and do hilarious things in the takeout line. The event raised $7,400 over three days. In our ongoing Sheriff’s Office personnel segment, tonight we air “Meet Your Detention Officer” featuring Ray Hoekstra, Detention Officer in the Greensboro Jail.
