February 22, 2010, two females assaulted a male on school grounds. Investigation is continuing.

Sheriff BJ Barnes announces that on 2/3/2010, Guilford County Sheriff’s Detectives arrested Mr. James Christopher Hardy with the assistance of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff BJ Barnes reports that the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a Homicide that occurred at 2813 Liberty Oaks Dr. On February 3, 2010 at 10:55 PM, Deputies were dispatched to 2813 Liberty Oaks Drive, Apt B reference a stabbing.

The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office reports crime statistics for the year 2009. Crime statistics are gathered and reported to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. These statistics measure the Part 1 and Part 2 crimes and how they either increase or decrease from year to year.

On 2/2/2010, at approx: 12:29 pm, the resident at 4810 Moutline Dr., Greensboro, NC called 911 and reported her grandson was armed with a knife threatening to cut people. It was reported the residents had locked themselves in the house and the suspect was trying to get into the home.

The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Section reports the seizure of drugs with a street value of $12,356,283.45 during the last year (2009). The seizures were of such drugs as marijuana, cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin,
MDMA, Psilocybin, Oxycodone, Aderall, Percocet, Hydrocodone, Oxycontin, Methadone, Diazepam, Duragesis and Meperdine.

Why do sworn officers of the law carry guns, and when are they legally used?  How does a jail function?  Exactly what kind of force may be used to restrain a criminal on the street and why?  Do officers carry guns inside jail?  When one dials “911” what chain of events is put in motion, mostly unknown to the caller?  What responsibilities does a sheriff’s office have that a police department may not?  How does our criminal justice system function?

Shortly after 7:00 pm on Sunday, January 24, 2010, Detention Officers in the High Point Detention Center discovered a fire that had apparently just been started in cell 7A33. The fire was extinguished after the inmate was removed to a safe location.

Sheriff BJ Barnes with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Mohamed Hassanien Abdelaal, and his wife, Lovie Annette Dodson Abdelaal, of 5106 Windermere Dr, Greensboro, NC for conspiracy to commit a felony.

Sheriff BJ Barnes reports that Deputies arrested two subjects for unrelated felony Sex Offender violations today December 29, 2009.

The first arrest, Harold Robert Grant, Jr, stemmed from an investigation of crimes occurring from February 18, 1993 to December 31, 2001. Mr. Harold Robert Grant, Jr was charged with four counts of Indecent Liberties with a child, one count of Second Degree Sex Offense, one count of Crime Against Nature and One Count of Felony Child Abuse – Sexual Act. Mr. Grant is a white male, date of birth February 29, 1952. Mr. Grant resides at 4104 Galway Drive, Greensboro, NC and is employed as a school teacher within the Guilford County School System.

Grant is currently in the Guilford County Jail under a $100,000.00 secured bond.

Sheriff BJ Barnes reports the arrest of an Eastern Guilford High School student for the possession of a firearm on school property. The School Resource Office arrested Isaiah Neal Crawford, B/M, DOB 09/03/1992 of 1912 McKnight Mill Rd, Greensboro, NC and recovered a Lorcin .380 caliber semiautomatic handgun from the student’s locker. The handgun’s magazine was loaded and a round was loaded in the chamber.
